[The JRB Daily] Listen to the new episode of Read This!—featuring Everything is a Deathly Flower, the highly anticipated debut poetry collection from Maneo Mohale

The new episode of Read This! is out now—find out what’s hot in the world of books!

Today, we’re talking about Everything is a Deathly Flower, one of the most highly anticipated debut poetry collections of the past few years. In it, Maneo Mohale writes boldly and powerfully about their experience of sexual assault, and how they reconstructed their life afterwards.

Mohale calls the book ‘a strange, slippery, queer collection of poems’, ‘a long love letter to survival’. The book, they say, is ‘full of rage and contradiction. Full of quiet questions. Full of joy, harm, history, and silence.’

In the November issue of The Johannesburg Review of Books—out today!—Lidudumalingani, award-winning writer, filmmaker and photographer, reviews Everything is a Deathly Flower. In the show, he shares his thoughts about the book.

You can also listen to Maneo Mohale reading the opening poem of their collection, titled ‘Letsatsi’.
